Frequently asked questions about Pilates
Will Pilates help me
with my back pain?
If you are in pain with your back you should visit a
healthcare specialist such as a Chiropractor, Osteopath or
Physiotherapist. It is important to deal with the cause of
the problem first. Once your practitioner says that you are
ready to start building strength to support your back then
you can commence a Pilates programme, however it is
recommended that you choose a course of private or semi-private
sessions to provide you with a personalised programme and
close supervision. Once you have built up the strength then
you will be ready to move onto a general class.
Can I do Pilates
if I'm pregnant?
If you are in your first trimester and have already been
doing Pilates for some time you may continue to follow a
Pilates programme, although you should check with your GP
first. If you are new to Pilates it is not advisable to
start a Pilates programme as the focus on abdominal work
can put undue stress on the foetus in the early stages of
development. Once
you are into the second trimester and your GP does not
advise otherwise you may commence a Pilates programme. In
these circumstances we would recommend a private course
providing you with a specialised programme rather than a
general class.
What do I need to
wear?
For Pilates you need to wear loose comfortable clothing.
Pilates is usually performed barefoot but you may wear socks
as long as the floor surface is not too slippery.
If you are partaking
in a private course in the studio a posture assessment will
be performed on your first visit. For this it is advisable
to wear shorts and a vest or close fitting t-shirt so that
the outline of your spine can be assessed.
Will Pilates help
me to lose weight?
Pilates is not a cardiovascular exercise and therefore
in addition to Pilates you should do some form of exercise
that helps raise your heart rate in order to help you burn
fat.
Pilates will help you to tone and lengthen your muscles as
well as improving your posture so that you look leaner,
taller and more toned.
How much
will it cost?
Private 1:1 tuition will cost between £45 - £50 depending on
location. Matwork courses cost £48 for each block of six
classes. Classes are held at Whitton Community Centre, Percy
Road, TW2 6JL.

Frequently asked questions about Emotional Freedom
Technique
How does EFT work?
EFT combines the sciences of mind-body medicine and
acupuncture leading to powerful results.
By using a process of tapping different pressure points
within the body whilst focusing the mind on an emotion or
feeling, the disruption within the body's energy system will
be removed.
How long does it take?
All experiences and emotions are different and so this can
vary. At worst it may take a few weeks to start to shift
some deeply held beliefs and behaviours, however it is also
common to see a dramatic change in a matter of minutes.
Results are very long lasting and usually permanent.
How will
I feel afterwards?
Once the blockages have been cleared you will be able to
recall past experiences without experiencing the negative
feelings associated with them.
After
a session of EFT it is important to drink water, and get
some fresh air as the process can make you feel tired
initially. However, with the release of the negative
feelings, you will feel refreshed and more positive.
Do you have to believe in it for it to
work?
No. Just give it a try and see the amazing difference it can
make.
How much
will it cost?
Sessions for EFT are often combined with coaching (see
below) and the number of sessions required will depend on
how deep rooted negative emotions and beliefs lie. For more
details please contact us to for your free, no obligation
consultation.

Frequently asked questions about Coaching
What is
coaching?
Starting off in the world of sport to help athletes
achieve their goals, coaching has now broadened and
become popular in helping individuals and organisations
achieve outstanding performance.
Coaching is a
collaborative process
between you and your
coach. Your coach acts as a facilitator, helping you
gain clarity
about
where you want to be and what you want to achieve, keeps
you motivated and supports you along the way.
How do
I know that coaching is right for me?
Coaching is right for you if you want to stop
repeating the same patterns and want to start making
lasting changes to your lifestyle. Coaching will help
you stay focused, provide you with support and
motivation to ensure you achieve your goals.
Coaching is right for you if you are committed to
making that change.
Why can't
I just talk to my friends?
Well you
can, but that's exactly what you will be receiving -
advice, from their point of view. The role of your coach is
to work with you to find the best solution for you. It is
not about giving direct advice but challenging your
thought processes to identify the solution best suited
to your requirements.
What
should I look for in a coach?
Coaching
is a fairly new and fast growing profession and is not
externally regulated, which does mean that anyone can
call themselves a coach. However the profession is
trying to self-regulate and there are some
governing professional associations that exist.
So first of all you want to make sure that your coach
has trained with an established coaching school
providing a mixture of theory and practical assessments
before achieving qualification.
Secondly, you want to know that they belong to a
professional association and undertake continuing
professional development.
Lastly, you want to be able to have a good relationship,
feel comfortable talking with them, and know that they
are really behind you all the way.
This is why it is important to have an introductory
session with your coach before you begin a
programme. Here you can ask any other questions you may
have about the coaching process and of course this is
totally complimentary.
How does
coaching work?
Sessions are normally conducted over the phone
so there is no rushing to get to a venue at an appointed
time and you can choose your surroundings so that you
feel comfortable and at ease.
It is the client's responsibility to phone the coach at
the designated time. Exercises will be sent out in
between sessions and it is the client's responsibility
to complete these and return them to their coach before
the next session in order to get the maximum benefit from the
coaching session.
What is
the investment?
Your investment in coaching is
required in terms of time
and energy as well as a
financial investment.
In terms of time,
our programme includes 12 sessions (usually 3 per month). Each
session lasts 45-55 minutes and is conducted over the
phone.
In terms of
energy,
there will be exercises to complete before each
session as well as a high focus during each of the
coaching sessions themselves.
The
financial
commitment for the Equilibrium programme is 4 monthly
instalments of £240 or pay for the programme in advance and receive
£150 discount.
